Manitoulin Special Olympics will be hosting the regional qualifier for the sport of baseball in Mindemoya on August 23rd and 24th.
The organization will also be partnering with Special Olympics Ontario to bring the Healthy Athletes Program to the community as well.
Volunteers will also be needed.
Traditionally, the Healthy Athletes Program has only been made available to individuals that attend a major games event. This means only athletes that qualify to attend a provincial or national games could take advantage of the benefits of this program. Now, as a host of this event, Manitoulin Special Olympics is able to open it up to individuals with intellectual disabilities within local communities even if they are not participants of the baseball tournament.
