Espanola High School holds 28th Co-op Employer Appreciation Luncheon

Two former Espanola High School co-operative education employers were acknowledged at this year’s 28th Annual Co-Op Employer Appreciation Luncheon.

High school guidance counsellor, Dean Riggs, says two influential supervisors passed away this year; Dr. John Wu from the T.C. Dental Office and John Rutlege, former manager at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

Plaques were presented to Dr. Wu’s staff and Joel Yusko representing the complex.

The luncheon included a slide show of the students at their various placements.

The master of ceremonies for the 28th Annual Co-op Employer Appreciation Luncheon also shared his co-op experience with the audience.

Ethan Cannard is proud to be a part of the Graduating Class of 2019 and is looking forward to attending Cambrian College in the Heavy Equipment Technician Program.

Cannard says his placement at EPIROC, one of the biggest heavy duty mining equipment suppliers in the world was a great experience.

He says he worked in the component side of the shop where components such as axles, differentials, transmissions and so much more.

He adds the experience helped him make the decision to focus on the college program and also taught him great life skills as well.

The luncheon also included a slide show of all the students at their various placements.

It is considered one of the most successful programs of its kind in Northern Ontario.
