Possible evacuation for Gogama area due to fire

The heavy rain for the north east might help prevent an evacuation in the Gogama area.

Timmins Forest Fire 2 started up on June 6th and by yesterday had burned its way through 6,000 hectares.

The fire is about four kilometres west of the community of Gogama and is burning on the west side of Highway 144 running parallel to the roadway.

There is a possibility that the fire could cross, so the OPP has closed Highway 144 at the north intersection of Highway 661 and the south intersection of Highway 560.

Local fire services have also asked residents to be ready to be evacuated at a moment’s notice.

Local emergency personnel are keeping a close eye on the situation.
