Search to begin for new medical officer of health at Algoma Public Health following controversy

As Algoma Public Health gets ready to look for a new medical officer of health, an internal investigation into its financial management is underway.  Sault MP David Orazietti asked for investigation after it was revealed that the health unit’s interim chief financial officer was behind bars for fraud.  No one conducted a background check on Shaun Rootenburg who used the name Shaun Rothberg at the health unit.   What’s more, Rothberg and former health unit medical officer of health Doctor Kim Barker were involved although Barker’s not talking.  Barker resigned saying it’s best for everyone and is expected headed back to Toronto. Meanwhile, APH has an interim medical officer of health following Barker’s departure.  Doctor Penny Sutcliffe, who heads the Sudbury and District Health Unit, will oversee the health unit’s affairs until a replacement is found.
