Sault Ste. Marie Wins New Smelter

Sault Ste. Marie has beaten Timmins for the smelter that will process the chromite from the Ring of Fire.

Noront Resources says the smelter will be built on Algoma Steel property.

Construction on the one billion dollar facility is expected to start by mid-2025, following environmental and feasibility assessments.

Once operational, the smelter will employ up to 500 people and create more than one thousand spin-off jobs.
