Filling big shoes

It takes thousands of steps to walk around the Great Lakes and a young advocate plans to do just that.

Fourteen-year-old Autumn Peltier of Wiikwemikoong Unceded First Nation has been named Chief Water Commissioner by the Anishnawbek Nation, made up of 40 First Nations including those in the local area.

Peltier says it’s an honour to take on the role over from her great aunt, Josephine Mandamin, the founder of the Mother Earth Walk.

Peltier, will be honoured at the Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Assembly in June in Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation.
