Snowmobilers should be more alert this week if they’re sledding across the North Channel. The Coast Guard began ice-breaking operations in the Thessalon and Cockburn Island region over the weekend. And this week the Coast Guard will be accompanying small ships into and out of the Thessalon area. That means more traffic on the North Channel for snowmobilers to contend with. Also as the ice gets broken up, watch to make sure fresh snow doesn’t hide it from view by covering it up.
