Espanola council by the books

Espanola Mayor Jill Beer brought back a defeated motion from a sub-committee meeting because she felt council did not have all the information it needed to make an informed decision, but her fellow councilors were having none of that.

Beer wanted to provide council with the opportunity of discussing a property on Highway Six where a gas station used to be and ongoing remediation continues.

The Economic Development Committee looked at purchasing the property surface rights for $5,000, but turned it down citing budgetary concerns.

Beer wanted to bring it back for discussion, but councilors are also concerned about possible liability in regards to environmental impact and other incurred costs.

Several councilors also felt the motion was out of order and did not follow the procedural bylaw, so it was defeated once again.
