Children love animals and a local area farm is offering families an opportunity to see how alpaca are sheared in the Spring.
The Dare 2 Dream Alpaca Farm in McKerrow is owned by Lina and Ray Godard and houses several alpaca.
Lina says the animals now have a thick layer of fleece, a natural fiber with no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic.
She says they are excited for families to take in the shearing, which will take place the weekend of May 4th and 5th.
The Godards sends the fleece to a mill to be processed before being sold.
Yes, they can spit, but most of the time they are friendly. Dare 2 Dream Alpaca Farm in McKerrow have several alpacas on their property raised for their fleece, which is considered a luxury fibre. Alpaca coats grow five to six inches and produce seven to ten pounds and sometimes even more fleece per year. Current prices paid for clean, high-quality alpaca fleece range from $3 to $5 an ounce.
