Carbon tax takes effect Monday in four provinces including Ontario

Starting Monday, people in Ontario will pay more for gasoline and heating fuel.

That’s because the federal carbon tax takes effect in provinces without their own measures. Federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is denouncing the tax, he says the Liberal measure was not an environmental plan but a “tax grab.”

The first brick-and-mortar cannabis stores are set to open in Ontario Monday, but it remains to be seen just how many will be ready to serve customers.

The Progressive Conservative government had planned to have 25 stores across the province launch today, but some are still working through a lengthy approval process. So far, recreational cannabis has only been available for purchase legally in Ontario through a government-run website.

The expectation now is that caucus members will insist on expelling resigned cabinet ministers Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott at their next meeting on Wednesday, or earlier if an emergency meeting is called.
