Purchase of new buses for Elliot Lake goes back to committee

Elliot Lake’s transit buses have turned out to be a huge failure, but council is not making any quick decisions on buying new ones.

Public Works director, Darryl Halloch, told council two of three of the Arboc buses had to be taken out of service this winter because of deterioration problems in the frames.

They were purchased in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Halloch told council it’s too late to stop delivery of a third Arboc bus, which was ordered last year and is set for delivery in a few weeks.
He recommended council purchase two new ones from another manufacturer at a cost of around $285,000, but council decided to refer the matter to the Public Services Committee instead for their review.
