Elliot Lake councilor resigns from Wildcats board

Elliot Lake council will not be naming another councilor to the Wildcats Board of Directors until they have met with the board.

Councillor Chris Patrie has resigned as a city rep following a proposal to buy the Junior ‘A’ hockey franchise was put on the table last week.

CAO Dan Gagnon and Economic Development Coordinator, Ashten Vlahovich, are recommending the city buy the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League club for $80,000, its’ estimated market value.

According to the report, the Wildcats still owe the city $50,000 for a loan, $25,000 to ELNOS and $5,000 to a third lender and the $80,000 could be used to discharge the team’s debts.
The Wildcats have been struggling financially, but the proposal was deferred until a meeting can be held with the full board.

The city deferred naming a replacement until the meeting is held.
