SPORTS: Elliot Lake Aquatics Club do swimmingly well

The Elliot Lake Aquatics Club continues to rule the water.

The February first weekend proved to be a stellar showing for the local swim club.
With 16 invited teams, 10 of the local swimmers churned up the John Rhodes pool for the Dave Kensit Short Course Championship with many now qualifying for regional and provincial finals.

Ethan Young continued his progress moving from the local pool to the Sault, earning two first place medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle, swimming his 50m free in 37.58sec. Ethan also swam the 200m and 400m freestyle distance with second place finishes for his efforts.

Sydney Abercrombie earned a silver medal for her 50m backstroke with a 40.81 sec finish.

Ava Young flew home with two silver medals after her efforts in the 100m and 200m Butterfly events.

Emma Young showed no stop earned five medals over the weekend: gold for her 100m Backstroke in 1:11.80; silver in the 50m Butterfly; Bronze in her 50m Free and 100m fly, and 400m Individual medley.

Avery Stirling stood atop each medal podium with a gold in 200m Backstroke, Silver in 200m free and bronze for her 400m Freestyle events.

Alyssa Hebert showcased her skills all weekend, shaving seconds off nearly all her previous personal bests. 31 sec off her 50m Breaststroke and 42 sec off her 100m freestyle swim.
Many of the swimmers will be showcased regionally, and even provincially, as their times have allowed them to qualify for both the festival and provincial standard.
