SPORTS – Plenty of Hardware for Manitoulin Special Olympians

All five snowshoers hailing from Manitoulin Island will have the opportunity to represent Ontario at the national games.

The athletes competed in different divisions based on their ability level the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games held this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mark Dokum (DOE-COME), Matthew Bedard, Dayne Tipper, Bruce VanHorn and Normand Daoust (DOE) brought home 14 medals, most of them gold.

Based on a selection system, they may now move on to the national winter games in Thunder Bay in 2020, but will not find out until late Spring.

Gold – 800 metres

Gold – Five kilometres

Silver – 400 metres

Silver – 4 X 400 metre relay

 

Mark Dokum

Gold – 100 metres

Gold – 200 metres

Gold – 4 X 100 metre relay

 

Dayne Tipper

Gold – 800 metres

Silver – 400 metres

Bronze – 4 X 400 metre relay

 

Bruce Vanhorn

Gold 100 metres

Silver 200 metres

 

Norman Daost

Gold – 100 metres

Gold – 200 metres

Bronze – 4 X 100 metre relay
