Espanola opts in for cannabis

Following an in-depth discussion, Espanola Council has opted in to allowing a cannabis retail operation in town.

Deputy Mayor Bill Foster pointed out the town could see revenue of $60 to $75,000 yearly.

Councillor Maureen Vanalstine opposed the motion stating her concern is for youth and there is no data to see what affects the legislation could have.

However, Councillor Heather Mallot said it would likely be a year before Espanola would likely have a retail outlet.

With opting in, town staff has been directed to send in the paperwork to the province.
