Five Manitoulin Special Olympians competing at provincial games

Taking in the best that Special Olympics offers is an opportunity not to be missed.

Hundreds of people will converge in Sault Ste. Marie for the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games at the end of the month.

Five competitors, all from Manitoulin Island, are hoping to snowshoe their way into the history books.

Mark Dokum, Matthew Bedard, Dayne Tipper, Bruce VanHorn and Normand Daoust (DOE) will represent the North at the competition, which runs January 31st to February 3rd.

Coach Judy Olacke says the five dedicated athletes will take part in various races at the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games.

The five athletes will compete in different races as follows:

Races at the Provincials

Mark – 100 & 200 m

Matthew – 400, 800 m and 5 km

Dayne – 400 & 800 m

Bruce – 100 & 200m

Normand – 100 & 200 m
