Austin Hunt to receive Order of Canada

It’s a big honour for Austin Hunt, the former Mayor of the Billings town council.

Hunt will receive the Order of Canada from the Governor General sometime during 2019.

The exact date for the ceremony has not yet been determined.

Hunt retired from municipal politics at the beginning of December after 65 years as a councillor, Reeve and Mayor.

He began his first term as a councillor in 1953 and ran for Reeve in 1968 winning every election after that for the top municipally elected post.

Hunt was nominated for the award by the Billings Museum Committee.

In a prepared statement the committee said it was an honour to nominate Hunt and the committee was delighted to learn that Hunt will receive one of the nation’s highest awards.
