Ontario government proposes cormorant cull

There could be an open season on culling double crested cormorants.

The birds’ numbers began to increase rapidly in the early 2000s, with the latest information indicating Great Lakes populations have since stabilized or declined slightly.
The government is proposing creating an open hunting season across Ontario beginning in 2019 from March 15 to December 31 every year across Ontario.

The proposal would also establish a bag limit of 50 cormorants per day with no possession limit.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has opened a commentary period until January 3rd.
