Giving themselves a raise of sorts is one of the first items the new Espanola council put on the table.
The federal government is bringing in legislation in January to eliminate a tax break for municipal councils, which will reduce remuneration by 8%.
A number of options were discussed including leaving it as it is and taking the loss.
However, the majority of council voted in favour of increasing the pay to equal the amount of the loss the legislation would be equal to.
It’s estimated the move will cost nearly $31,000, which will be in the 2019 budget.
