Espanola council hires full-time lifeguard

Espanola council has approved the hiring of a full-time lifeguard, which is expected to help with programming issues.

Sue Bennett-Hamilton, a former physical education teacher at Espanola High, brought her concerns about the lack of open pool hours and programming to council on Tuesday night.

In October, the town lost some staffers, which led to a loss in programming.

Bennett-Hamilton presented council with some 300 signatures asking for more staff and an increase in hours of operation, as well as a letter of support from the Espanola Family Health Team.

Moving a staffer to full-time will alleviate some of the concerns.
