The North Shore Search & Rescue Unit based out of Espanola has to raise 100% of their own funds to operate every year.
To that end, a road toll was held on Highway 6 at Espanola’s south end on Saturday.
Several members of the unit collected money from motorist and with plenty of traffic heading to Manitoulin Island for the annual deer hunt, the fundraising was a success.
In all, $5,000 was raised.
The unit also receives donations from service clubs and other supporters to maintain its active status.
The funds will go towards insurance, equipment, training and ongoing related costs.
