École Sainte-Anne is self-sustaining – solar power

Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario media relations spokesperson Bridget Morin says a school is now on a non-metered power system.

Morin says a solar panel system installed at École Sainte-Anne is a 160 kilowatt system which will provide the school with all the power needed to operate, allowing them to reduce their carbon foot print and operating costs.

And, as the solar panel system is less than 500kW, a public consultation was not needed and provincial rules also state that institutional organizations can install systems under 500 kilowatts on their property without the need for special zoning.
Still with the story, not everyone is happy with the installation.

Resident, Tshanna DeBartolo, (SHAWNA DEE-BART-TOE_LO) feels she and her neighbours should have been consulted since the installation of the solar panels has changed the view, may have affected property values and also took away play areas for the students.

Morin says the board will be contacting neighbors in the near future to provide more details regarding the solar panels placed on École Sainte-Anne’s property.
