Manitoulin Island doctor named Family Physician of the Year in Ontario

The Ontario College of Family Physicians has named a Manitoulin Island doctor, Dr. Dieter (DEE-TER PEN) Poenn of Little Current, the 2018 Reg L. Perkin Family Physician of the Year for Ontario.
The announcement officially kicks off Family Doctor Week in Canada, which runs from November 12-17.

The award is the College’s highest honour, presented annually to a family doctor who provides exceptional care to patients, while significantly contributing to the health and well-being of communities and society.
During his 30-year career, Dr. Poenn has provided all facets of rural medicine – from his office-based practice and the emergency department and in-patient care at the Manitoulin Health Centre, to the Wiikwemkoong Group Home and the Manitoulin Centennial Manor.

Dr. Poenn will be presented the award during the 2018 OCFP Awards Ceremony this Thursday, November 14th in Toronto.
