Espanola council has come up with its own recommendation in dealing with an Integrity Report that calls on them to lose none of their remuneration.
Espanola council’s regular agenda Tuesday night includes recommendations of the Integrity Commissioner’s Report, which sanctions councillors by suspending some of their pay.
However, a resolution has been placed on the table for discussion calling on council to not have to lose any of their remuneration, but rather to form what is being called a comprehensive plan entitled ‘Council’s New Vision’ to implement real change in Espanola.
Councillors Ron Duplessis, Ken Duplessis, Ray Dufour and Heather Mallott were all called to the carpet by commissioner Shearer Parnega for behaviours she called ‘abusive and intimidating’ to staff.
She recommended they lose money ranging from 30 to 90 days.
The case came to a head this year when nine department heads complained to the Integrity Commission over how council treated them.
Once the complaints were made, that triggered the Code of Conduct investigation.
