Espanola council to address Integrity Report … or not

Recommendations made by Integrity Commissioner, Jan Parnega are to be reviewed by Espanola council … or not.

Earlier this year, nine department heads complained to the Integrity Commission over how council treated them and that triggered a Code of Conduct investigation.

In a summary of the 103-page report, Parnega cites councilors Ron Duplessis, Ken Duplessis, Ray Dufour and Heather Mallott and Mayor Ron Piche’s behavior as unacceptable and abusive to staff.

Recommendations are to be presented to council Tuesday evening, but the councilors did not take part in the investigation and the meeting will be an opportunity for them to do so, or not.

Parnega added that if the recommendations were not followed then the complainants should call the Ministry of Labour.

Mayor Ron Piche is the only politician to respond to the allegations, publicly apologizing on The Moose last week.

The others have not responded to inquiries by the Moose.
