Transition underway for OPP policing in Town of Espanola

The Ontario Provincial Police has made it official that the Town of Espanola will transition from being policed by the Espanola Police Service to the OPP in mid-October.

The transition takes place on October 11th at 6:00pm.

The Ontario Civilian Police Commission approved the disbandment of the Espanola Police Service on August 30th.

As part of the transition, the current Espanola Police Service station at 76 Center Street will be temporarily closed between October 11th and November 9th while undergoing renovations.

Espanola residents can contact the OPP at the detachment on Highway 17 or call for service at 705-869-1211.

The OPP has also taken over criminal and vulnerable searches as of now.
