Domtar – Espanola’s largest union ratifies contract

A new four-year contract is in place for Domtar union workers in Espanola.

Unifor 74 President, Joanne Lamothe, says the deal offers wage increases, indexing for pensioners in 2021 and stronger contracting out language.

She adds 85% of the 300-member union voted in favour of the deal, which is retroactive to May 1, 2018 and expires April 30th, 2022.

Lamothe says the contract follows the pattern set in other provinces and the negotiating committee had recommended acceptance.

Meanwhile, it is still unknown if the 90 members of Local 156, the paper machine workers, who were offered the same contract, have ratified the deal.
