Algoma students back to school; extra day off for students from other boards

It’s an extra day off for most students in the region with only the Algoma board resuming classes today.

The remainder of the boards, Rainbow, Huron-Superior, Grand Nord and Nouvel Ontario re-open their schools on Wednesday.

With schools back in session, various police departments are reminding motorists that school buses are also back on the streets.

That means stopping for the vehicles when they’re picking up or dropping off students.

Also, remember to slow down when you’re driving through school zones.

Rainbow is the largest school board in Northern Ontario and this year it’s expecting just more than 13, 109 students.

Most of the students are enrolled at the board’s elementary school at 8,666.

The remainder of the students, 4,443, will be heading to the various high schools.
