Forest fires in the northeast holding steady

Firefighters continue to battle 26 wildfires spread across the northeast.

All these fires are either under control or being observed.

The various provinces continue to supply Ontario with various equipment to help extinguish the blazes although the personnel have gone back to their respective homes.

One fire that hasn’t got any bigger is Parry Sound 33.

That’s the wildfire that threatened to shut down Highway 69 a few weeks back because it was only five kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway and the concern was the smoke would create a safety factor.

It remain at more than 11,300 hectares.

Despite the fact the fire is under control, the ministry continues to have a travel restriction in place near Parry Sound 33 so that firefighting efforts aren’t hampered by people travelling to the area.
