Sturgeon Falls shooting results in two deaths

The OPP say two people are dead as a result of the Sunday shooting incident in Sturgeon Falls.

The 46-year-old man involved in the shooting was confirmed dead in a wooded area several hours after running from police.

A second person is dead but the OPP aren’t saying if this person is a male or female or their age.

A 59-year-old woman also involved in the incident is being treated for critical injuries.

No names have been released.

The incident began just after 8:00pm Sunday when a woman called 9 1 1 to report shots on her property.

The Special Investigations Unit says there was interaction between the police and the man once they arrived and he then ran into the woods.

His body was found just after 2:00am Monday and the SIU says he had a gunshot wound.

However the agency isn’t saying if the man committed suicide or was shot by police.

The OPP and West Nipissing Police are jointly investigating the shooting as is the SIU.
