MP says progress being made on reducing poverty

A Northern Ontario Liberal MP who has led the charge to reduce poverty in Canada says a poverty reduction strategy is working.

Marc Serre of Nickel Belt says since taking office in 2015 many people have been lifted out of poverty.

He says by next year, 650,000 Canadians will no longer fall under the poverty line.

Serre says the next targets are to reduce poverty by 20 percent by 2020 and 50 percent 10 years after that.

Serre says it’s the Liberal government’s plan to be a world leader to eradicate poverty.
