Number of forest fires drops below 30

The number of forest fires in the northeast has dropped to 29 from the high 30s earlier this week.

Only one fire is out of control.

The remainder are either being held or observed.

One of the fires that’s being held is Parry Sound 33 which is still more than 11,000 hectares large.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is continuing to lift its Restricted Fire Zone designation.

The latest region no longer under a restriction is the Algoma District.

However the designation remains in force from Espanola to the Quebec border and takes in the Sudbury, North Bay, Parry Sound and Temagami regions.
