Espanola OPP responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township yesterday morning, which led to special units being called in.

OPP Constable Marie Ford says they were called in around four am and had to use numerous resources in an attempt to facilitate a peaceful surrender of the man some 12 hours later.

Units on the scene included the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the OPP helicopter and EMS.

The 21-year-old man from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township was taken into custody around 4:00 pm and charged with: assault with a weapon; careless use of a firearm; possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a bail order; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and killing, injuring or endangering animals other than cattle.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The accused is to appear in Sudbury court on July 26th.
