Photo by Rosalind Russell Coffee lovers got a surprise in Espanola when national NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, dropped by. Singh visited Manitoulin Island and Espanola last Friday including a stop at the Tim Hortons in Espanola and Moose studios. Singh says Northerners have brought many issues to his attention including what he calls the housing crisis. He says he realizes there is problems for people to afford housing anywhere, whether they be seniors or young professionals just starting out and that there has to be countermeasures put in place to help offset the high costs of buying a home, let alone finding a place to rent. He adds autism does not end when a child turns eighteen and so there has to be a concerted effort to look at ways to continue providing supports for those individuals who need it once they age out. He adds he will be taking a closer look at the issue. Singh emphasizes he also supports FEDNOR and economic initiatives to create jobs in the North.
