Fire danger high despite rain – Espanola imposes fire ban

It rained and it is a bit cooler, but not enough to lessen the danger of fire in the north east.

To that end, several municipalities throughout the North Shore corridor and Manitoulin Island have put fire bans in place, Espanola being the latest.

Fire information officer Isabelle Chenard says as of Wednesday afternoon, there were 38 active fires across the region with 17 of them not yet under control.

She says the majority of them started as a result of lightning strikes.
The public can check with their municipality to see if there are any active fire bans.
