Ensuring the public can safely buy, trade and sell in a positive environment is the goal of Project Safe Trade.
Community Safety Officer, Constable Marie Ford, says last Thursday, the Manitoulin-Espanola OPP and the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands launched the community safety zone at the Little Current OPP detachment parking lot.
She adds it is an effort to make online transactions safer for buyers and sellers.
Visit www.opp.ca and search Project Safe Trade. Contact your local OPP detachment to find out if Project Safe Trade is in your area.
Online transaction safety tips:
Meet in a busy public place
Bring a trusted friend or family member along as a witness
Keep transactions to daylight hours
Do not erase e-mails, texts or voicemails between yourself and the seller/buyer
