Heat wave precautions

With hot, humid weather in the forecast, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a heat warning for areas within Public Health Sudbury service area including Espanola and Manitoulin Island.

Public Health Environmental Manager, Burgess Hawkins, says continuous exposure to high levels of heat can lead to dehydration and illnesses such as heat stroke and even death.

He says people who are most at risk include older adults and young children, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, as well as the homeless and those who use alcohol or illicit drugs.

Hawkins suggests staying out of the sun, do not over exercise and stay hydrated.
