Blind River landfill needs expansion

The Blind River landfill is expected to reach the end of its use by 2020, two short years away, and council is moving forward on expansion.

Kresin Engineering Corporation has been looking at options and is proposing expansion of the current dump location.

Kresin said the expansion would extend the life of the dump by 25 years, which is the maximum allowed by the Ministry of the Environment when it considers landfill expansion.

Preliminary studies have been carried out including water studies and efforts continue, including recycling and bag limits.

An update is expected in the fall.
