Espanola looking to celebrate its seniors

June is Seniors’ Month in Ontario and 2018 marks the 34th annual Seniors’ Month.

The theme this year is: “Now’s the time to start something new,” highlighting how aging does not prevent any senior from leading fulfilling lives.

Senior Appreciation Day is Tuesday, June 12th in Espanola and there are various activities at the Espanola Regional Recreation Centre including aquafit, free seniors social and lunch and movie starting at 10:00am.

Still with the story, pickleball has arrived in Espanola, an excellent option for seniors according to tennis and pickleball enthusiast, Daphne Allen.

Allen says the tennis courts at the Espanola Golf & Country Club have been revamped to accommodate the sport, which is a good one for anyone of any age, but is also great for seniors.

Pickleball is a game resembling tennis in which players use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net.

Allen says members usually come out between 8:00am and 10:00am, but the courts are available at any time.
