Blake Bond Undergoing Bone Marrow Transplant

An Espanola boy is at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children for a life-saving surgical procedure.

Nine-year-old Blake Bond will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant this week.

Blake’s aunt, Taryn Bond, says Blake is doing well and has spent the last couple of weeks resting with family and friends.

He is battling acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Blake just completed over two months of intense chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital in Ottawa.

In September of 2014 at the age of five, Blake was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood.

On his mom’s 30th birthday this past January, Blake rang the bell in Ottawa declaring him cancer free.

However, Blake received the new diagnosis on February 28th, a week after his ninth birthday.

He, and his mother, Kayli, are expected to stay in Toronto for the next six months.

Still with the story, over 275 tickets have been sold for this coming weekend’s Lobsterfest.

The Beer Store in Espanola is also hosting a bottle drive on Saturday and will match every donation.

All the proceeds raised will go to Team Blake to assist the Bond family in offsetting costs not covered by any government and/or support program.
