Pride Festival ready to go in Elliot Lake

Elliot Lake City Council has proclaimed its support for the Sixth annual Pride Weekend.

Elliot Lake Pride President Chantal Vaillancourt and Vice-President Douglas Elliott talked to council about this year’s festivities at the Monday night council meeting.

The organizers, who will host most of the events at the Elliot Lake Person Community Centre, say there will be plenty going on.

Panelists will visit Elliot Lake Secondary School to talk to students about the LGBTQ communities and the Two Spirit lifestyle and to talk about this year’s Pride Weekend.

The City itself will officially kick off Pride festivities with a flag raising ceremony on Friday, May 25th. Pride flags will be flown at the Civic Centre, City Hall and other locations throughout Elliot Lake.

Elliott told council the Pride Festival kickoff is set for the Hampton Inn on Friday evening with a games event, then it’s off to the Fireside restaurant for the warm up dinner and party.

Saturday, May 26th will feature a mid-day parade and a barbecue, information tables and more.

There will also be a panel presentation on “Golden Gays” geared to LGBTQ senior’s issues, the Miss Conception show, and church service.
