City of Elliot Lake replacing city’s current boat launch

The City of Elliot Lake has plans to convert a former ministry site to replace the city’s current boat launch.

Demolition of an old Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests building is underway on Highway 108.

The City of Elliot Lake bought the property 10 years ago when it was no longer needed by the government.
As part of this year’s budget, $10,000 was set aside to remove the old building and clean up the site.

The city eventually wants to use the property to replace the city’s current boat launch on Elliot Lake with a new facility and finger dockage.

It would enhance current launch facilities, but no timeline is in place for building the dockage.

Mayor Dan Marchisella adds the Boat Launch is being rebuilt this year with plans for future pier and finger docks.
“The MNR Site is being cleaned as it is an eyesore and potentially unsafe,” says Marchisella. “That gives the city the option of eventually expanding the waterfront area connecting to the boat launch if future councils wish.”
