New school in Espanola design plans

Espanola’s new school will be two storeys and house up to nearly 800 students, including day care.

The English Catholic and French Catholic Boards held simultaneous presentations last night outlining the design of the new shared school, which will house Sacred Heart elementary, Ecole St. Joseph elementary and Ecole secondaire Franco-Ouest.

One of the main concerns raised is no funding for playground equipment, which means a local fundraising campaign will have to be organized.

Other questions centered around ensuring security of the different sections of the school, size of the classrooms and possible expansion if needed.

Construction begins this week and a public ground-breaking ceremony will be held on Monday, June 18th at 11:00am on site.

Sudbury’s Build North will construct the $25.2 million dollar project utilizing the design plans of IDEA architectural firm.
