Two Separate Accidents Results In Two Separate Fatalities

UPDATE – FATALITIES IDENTIFIED: Police have identified the name of the woman who died in the Walden collision yesterday. She was a passenger of the transport truck and has been identified as 33-year-old Jennifer Bastisich from Cornwall, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the transport truck, Kimberly-Ann Warden, also from Cornwall, was charged with careless driving.

Highway 17 westbound lanes, in that area, were closed for approximately 12 hours while emergency services personnel conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.

Police have also identified the woman killed in the Markstay collision.  She was the driver of the SUV and has been identified as 65-year-old Lise Myre from Sudbury.

MOOSE NEWS: There have been two separate accidents where people have died on Highway 17.

Yesterday morning, shortly after 6:20am, Sudbury OPP and other services responded to a tractor trailer that crashed into a rock cut on Highway 17, east of Regional Road 55 in Walden Township.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene and the other transported to hospital.

In the second accident, which also occurred yesterday AT 10:20am, Sudbury OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a sport utility vehicle and a tractor trailer on Highway 17, east of Markstay.

As a result of that collision, the driver of the SUV was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries.

The names of the deceased are not being released pending notification of next of kin.
