Hughes Calls For Real National Pharmacare

Canadians shouldn’t have to struggle to pay for prescription drugs and a national Pharmacare program is the best answer, according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes.

Hughes provided some solid reasons the government should get on board with the idea when she delivered a petition calling for Pharmacare in parliament.

One in five people is unable to fill their prescriptions due to financial reasons, said Hughes.

Despite a government promise to study a limited version of Pharmacare contained in this year’s budget, Hughes says Canadians would be best served by a full program that brings the most economic benefit.

Hughes adds Canada is the only country in the world with a universal Medicare system that does not include prescription drugs.

She says that is why people are asking the government to work with the provinces to implement a universal pharmacare program as part of the public health care system.
