Billing models for OPP presented to Espanola council

Representatives of the Ontario Provincial Police met with Espanola council on Tuesday in a special meeting to go over billing models, which will be used if the town switches from municipal to provincial policing.

OPP Municipal Policing Specialist, Sergeant Kelly Withrow, explained to council the different cost models that will be used if the transition takes place and to assist them in making their final decision.

She says for the three-year transitional period, the cost will be based on the number of full-time equivalents, that is officers, but following that the billing model will be based on calls per service.

Withrow added back in 2012 the Auditor General ordered a review and amendment to make costing more equitable across the board for all OPP policed communities.
