Bystanders save man’s life at hockey game in Killarney

Having a defibrillator at the arena in Killarney likely saved a man’s life.  The man was playing hockey when he had a heart attack prompting bystanders to administer CPR.   While this was going on someone else got the defibrillator and restarted the man’s heart.   The quick action meant all paramedics had to do was to stabilize and treat the man when they arrived before hospitalizing him in Sudbury. The defibrillator at the arena is one of 140 the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Services Board has in place across the region.   Board chairman Les Gamble says it’s examples like the Killarney incident that reinforce why the board pursued the defibrillator program.
