Coldest Night of the Year in the works

Elliot Lake’s Maplegate Shelter is hosting the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser once again this year.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a non-competitive 2.5 or 5 kilometre winter walk set for February 24th.

It will raise money for the women’s shelter, the new third stage house and new men’s shelter.

Maplegate executive director, Melody Rose, says the fundraiser started as part as a real riches to rags story of a man who wanted to help out those in need in their own local communities.

Last year, over $20,000 was raised, but Rose hopes to raise $30,000 this year with the money staying in Elliot Lake.
