Espanola town council has directed departments to go back to the drawing board on their 2018 budgets.
Espanola CAO Cynthia Townsend says both the Espanola Police Service and the library proposed budgets are too high.
She says the police alone want a substantial increase of nearly half-a-million dollars.
Townsend adds with pulling from reserves, the budget sits at just over four per cent, but it could be lower.

Council agreed and passed a motion that the two departments come back with decreases.
The next budget meeting will be held later this month.
