Fedeli not running for permanent leadership

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli has dropped a bombshell.     The interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party says he will not run for the role of permanent leader.    Fedeli made the announcement just a few minutes before noon Tuesday.   The decision is a reversal from the weekend when he told Moose News and other media outlets he would seek the leadership.

Last Friday, Fedeli was named leader by the caucus after former leader Patrick Brown stepped down over allegations of sexual misbehaviour.   However shortly afterward the party executive said there would be a permanent leadership vote where the members have a say in who the leader would become.   In saying he won’t run, Fedeli says it’s because the party “is in much worse shape than we knew” and he adds fixing it “will be a massive undertaking”.

Fedeli says fixing the problems is essential if the P.C.’s expect to win the June election.   As a result as interim leader, Fedeli says he will devote his time exclusively to fixing what’s wrong and ensure there’s a “steady hand” at “the helm” during this chaotic time within the Tory party.  Fedeli says the party and the people of Ontario must come before his personal interests to pursue the permanent leadership.
